Intergenerational Project

In Term 3  Year 6 students have been meeting with and building relationships with residents from the Tri-Care Mt Gravatt Aged Care Residence. The project aimed to bring different generations together to share life experiences and stories about school, work, hobbies and sport from their own generation.

It has been fabulous to see smiles on the faces of both the older adults and students as they built a connection. The project facilitated empathy and gratitude for the other generation that has then developed understanding and appreciation for one another as they became friends.

Towards the end of term, we welcomed 11 residents to STC for a delicious lunch and a special birthday celebration for Doug who turned 100 that day. Happy Birthday Doug! We were joined by Corrine McMillan MP - State Member for Mansfield who actively supported this wonderful initiative.

Thank you to Tri-Care for their eagerness to be involved. Thank you to Sarah Brady from The Community Crusade who supported the school with the project’s implementation and thank you also to our amazing staff Mr Armstrong, APRE, and our Year 6 teachers, Miss Sellwood and Mrs Maker, for helping to embed this project into their class learning.  We cannot wait to catch up again....... like long-time friends.
